Mature Ministries was established in 1987, by Wayne and Linda Edwards, in response to the increasing desire among God’s people for a deeper understanding of His Word. Both of them grew up in rural churches in Northeast Georgia where they were saved and baptized, but without the encouragement or the expectation of spiritual growth, they were stymied in their spiritual journey.
After wandering from the church for several years, and pursuing their own goals, God put people in their pathway that questioned their love for the Lord and challenged them to personal discipleship. After completing the prescribed course, the Edwards began to disciple others in the same pattern. Both of them realized what they and so many others had missed for so many years, and God used that burden as His call to the ministry.
Through our sponsorship program, we have provided the funds for children to go to grammar school, high school, college, and seminary, and one man will soon receive his degree in Law. Several of the children we met in 1998 are now teachers, nurses, and pastors. Because of the political unrest in Central
America, we can no longer lead our mission teams. However, we are thankful we can work through those we have helped to do as much as we can, for as many as we can, before the Lord calls us home. We are also proud that the people of Heritage Baptist Church agreed to partner with us in this ministry in Nicaragua, as well as our new work in the Philippines and many other areas.
In 1974 they left their home and family to pursue God’s clear call to the ministry. Wayne graduated from Columbia International University, Columbia, SC, in 1980, and for the next 40+ years, he served in various staff positions of several Baptist churches, including Senior Pastor. But in each church, in addition to their positional responsibilities, he and Linda poured their personal lives into those who came to them seeking to be disciplined. The heart-cry of the Edwards is to invest their lives in developing spiritual leaders who will do the same for others. The Purpose of Mature Ministries:
Is to offer that challenge to everyone by providing materials, encouragement, and accountability to those who sincerely want to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord; pursuing excellence in every facet of their faith, until they reach that mark of spiritual maturity, where they are – “no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine” – but rather they have solidified their faith, and increased in their knowledge of the Son of God, “unto a mature man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” (An adaptation of Ephesians 4:12-14)
